Most Guitar Teachers had No Prior Guitar Experience

According to researchers, only about 35% of K-12 guitar teachers in the U.S. studied guitar in college.
If you have never taught a guitar class before, you are in good company. 

While all high school guitar teachers in the United States have a music degree, not all of them have been trained to play guitar. Only a small percentage of guitar teachers are guitar specialists. Guitar classes have been reported to be mostly taught by band directors, general music teachers, choral directors, and orchestra directors.

This means that no experience is needed, and you can advocate for a program at your school even though you have never taught guitar before.
