“Andrew York is one of the most beloved composers of our time.”
The Andrew York Concert: The centerpiece of the Seven Bridges Guitar Festival is the evening concert featuring the legendary Andrew York, one of today’s best-loved composers for classical guitar and an international performer. His compositions blend the styles of ancient eras with modern musical directions, creating music that is at once vital, multi-leveled, and accessible. Andrew received his first GRAMMY award as a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet during his sixteen years with the cutting-edge ensemble, and his compositions have been featured on several GRAMMY-winning recordings.
A leading voice in modern classical guitar, Andrew York is celebrated for compositions that tell vivid, emotionally resonant stories through every musical phrase. Surrounded by music that bridges past and present, you’ll move through time and emotion under York’s skillful quest for beauty and meaning through his inventive compositions. His performances blend tradition with innovation, carrying centuries of musical insight into a fresh, contemporary voice.
“When Andrew York plays, the guitar becomes transparent; the music just pours out from his soul.” - Russ De Angelo, Festival Director, La Guitarra California
"Andrew York’s eclectic writing and playing constitute one of the hippest styles in American classical guitar . . . his writing projects levels of honesty, spirit and magnetism that are rare in contemporary guitar composition.” - Jim Ferguson, Guitar Player Magazine
"Andrew York takes old wine skins (Bagatelle, Etude, Saraband . . .) and fills them with the new wine of his artistic soul. This is beautiful music." - Michael Rivers, Victory Review
"Immaculate technique, elegant and expressive . . . His intimate knowledge of the instrument provides for some delicious sonorities of authentic originality . . ." - John Schneider, Soundboard Magazine
"While some people play music, others are musicians. These people transcend whatever instrument they play and connect with a level far beyond the mere physical. Andrew York is one of these special people who do just that; he is a musician’s musician. Not only through his performances but through his composing, he is enriching the guitar in ways only future generations will truly understand. It is an honor and pleasure to know this gifted and kind artist.” - Bill Piburn, Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine (Scroll down for more info about Andrew York)

The Seven Bridges Guitar Festival is a landmark musical event celebrating one of the world’s most versatile and beloved instruments. Inspired by the seven iconic bridges that connect Jacksonville’s communities, the festival highlights the guitar as a powerful cultural bridge of its own — linking genres, generations, and stories across the region.
The Seven Bridges Guitar Festival brings together artists, educators, students, and audiences to explore the guitar’s extraordinary range — from classical mastery and folk tradition to jazz innovation, bluegrass flatpicking, and contemporary experimentation.
PERFORMANCES - WORKSHOPS - MASTERCLASSES - COMPETITION.
Festival attendees will also experience a dynamic lineup of virtuoso performances showcasing the guitar in many of its forms. Soloists will offer intimate, nuanced soundscapes; ensembles will create orchestral textures; singer‑songwriters will share personal stories through chords and lyrics; and trailblazing innovators will push the instrument into new sonic territory.
A cadre of the “Best Guitarists in North Florida” will provide vivid demonstrations of versatility during the LIVE MUSIC Guitarist Showcase sessions:
Stephen Mattingly’s refined elegance and classical artistry,
Barry Greene’s expert sophistication and improvisational fire of jazz,
Aubrey King's lightning-quick, precise flatpicking articulation of bluegrass,
Jonathan Dotson’s brilliant mastery of classical and Spanish guitar,
Tony Scozzaro's electric fusion of blues, rock, jazz, and more,
Brian Luckett’s fiery rhythmic flamenco,
Sam Pacetti’s storytelling warmth and folk fingerstyle,
Michael Jordan’s rhythmic and musically percussive expressions of pure creative acoustic wizardry.
Plus more.... (artist information is available; just click on the name above)
Many styles, many traditions, one instrument capable of all of them.
In addition to performances, the festival will feature workshops for players of all levels. These sessions will open doors for beginners discovering their first chords and seasoned musicians refining their craft. Participants will explore how technique, creativity, and curiosity transform six strings into limitless expression.
By the festival’s end, audiences won’t just have heard the guitar. They’ll have experienced its versatility, its history, its future, and its power to unite.
The guitar is more than an instrument; it’s a bridge. And this festival invites everyone to cross it.
We have compiled a SHOWCASE SAMPLER of the performers in the FESTIVAL's "Best Guitarists in North Florida" Showcase. Check it out!
About the Artist: Andrew York
Andrew York is one of today’s best-loved composers for classical guitar and a performer of international stature. His compositions blend the styles of ancient eras with modern musical directions, creating music that is at once vital, multi-leveled, and accessible. Andrew received a GRAMMY as a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet during his sixteen years with the cutting-edge ensemble. York’s compositions have been featured on GRAMMY-winning recordings by Jason Vieaux (CD “Play”, featuring Andrew’s iconic composition “Sunburst”, 2015) and Sharon Isbin (CD “Journey to the New World” featuring “Andecy”, 2010). In 2006 Andrew recorded and performed with the Atlanta Symphony for the opera “Ainadamar” by Osvaldo Golijov. The recording of “Ainadamar” (Deutsche Gramophone) won two GRAMMY awards.
Andrew’s video “Home” has received millions of views, with Andrew playing his recent hit on a vintage Torres guitar built in 1888.
Andrew has released CDs on Sony-U.S., Sony-Japan, King Records (Japan), Telarc, GSP and Delos labels, as well as inclusion on Rhino Records “Legends of Guitar” and numerous other compilations. Andrew’s 2010 CD release “Centerpeace” offers individual collaborations with guitarist Andy Summers, and pianists Mitsuko Kado and Allaudin Mathieu.
Andrew’s most recent recordings “Home” and “The Equations of Beauty", were released on both vinyl LP and two separate EP/CDs. The recordings include the single “Home” and the 26-minute suite “The Equations of Beauty", based on mathematics.
Andrew’s solo recording “Yamour” was released on vinyl as a double LP album, and garnered the number one spot in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “Essential Recordings of 2012” by editor Teja Gerken. Commenting on the more than eighty minutes of new pieces for solo guitar he composed for this major work, Andrew says “When I write I feel a connection to my spirit and the joy and sorrow of life. My entire life comes into focus and there is no separation between me as a boy, a young man and now in my later years.”
In Andrew’s concerts the theater becomes a living room, and the musical conversation begins with the first note. His authenticity has inspired a worldwide following, with his touring schedule spanning more than thirty countries. International concerts include Rome, Lima, Beijing, Copenhagen, Ankara, Munich, Manhattan, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Andrew’s sixteenth tour of Japan.
In film, Andrew performs in the live documentary “Primal Twang”, written and hosted by eminent musician and storyteller Dan Crary, with other artists Eric Johnson, Albert Lee, Doc Watson, and Mason Williams.
York’s compositions have also been recorded by guitar luminaries John Williams and Christopher Parkening, Sharon Isbin, Jason Vieaux, Dai Kimura, and Japanese pianist Mitsuko Kado. In addition, generations of younger guitarists make Andrew’s music a staple of their repertoire in their performances and studies. As a published composer, prior to creating his own publishing company, York’s works have appeared in print worldwide through Alfred Publications, Hal Leonard, Mel Bay Publications, Guitar Solo Publications, Doberman-Yppan in Canada, Ricordi in London, and Gendai in Japan.
As an entrepreneur, Andrew is CEO of Majian Music, a publishing house that handles Andrew’s catalog of more than a hundred original solo and ensemble compositions. And in 2019, Andrew launched the subscription website “Andrew’s Den”, which has hundreds of subscribers and hosts content of more than seventy-two hours of teaching videos.
A love of music was instilled at an early age; Andrew’s father was a guitarist and his mother a professional singer. Family reunions abounded with folk music ranging from frontier American to English and Celtic traditional songs.
Andrew crosses over stylistic boundaries with an unusual authority - besides his classical contribution, he also has an extensive background as a jazz guitarist, studying with jazz legends Joe Diorio and Lenny Breau. As a classical musician, Andrew was awarded a grant from the Del Amo Foundation for Study in Spain. Andrew received his Master of Music degree from University of Southern California, and is the only USC graduate in the school’s history to twice receive the Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award in 1997 as a member of LAGQ and in 2003 as the sole recipient. Andrew is a member of the Triple Nine Society.
